The train rattled past hills and mountains, through thick green woods and amber waves of grain, over rivers and rickety bridges between towering cliffs. Now, glimpsing out the window, they could spot it in the distance every time the train curved around the headland, a black shape looking over an endless sea. For so many of them, this was the trip of a lifetime. A dream come true.

For her it was like sitting in a rusted tin box ready to shred into shrapnel. Gwyn clutched onto the overhand strap like it was a rollercoaster, her other hand stuffed in her jacket pocket, balled into a fist around a silver chain. A protective charm her father gave her. Like a talisman.

Just in case.

Nervous, heck yeah, she was nervous. Who wasn't nervous? But it went beyond nervous. She just knew the second she let her guard down, that's when it'd strike. Too good to be true, those were the words most kids coming to Lawicke would use, but for her it was literal. It was too good to be true.

"Be..." Gwyn dug her nails into her palm, forcing the words through her teeth. Smile. "Positive... Be positive...!" If she smiled a whole whole whole lot she could trick her brain into thinking she meant it. Think about how lucky you are! Think about... anything besides the train exploding...!

Smile. Keep smiling.

She'd never won a coin toss. She always drew the short straw. First time she tried to break off the wishbone, the bone almost ended up lodged in her uncle's jugular. Now she was going to Lawicke. Her first stroke of luck since the day she was born and she landed a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity like this. Of course she was excited. Ecstatic! Over the moon! Gwyn had barely been able to keep still, and not just because she was sitting on pins and needles. But there was that small, niggling, oh-so-tiny voice in the back of her mind whispering, "But what if the train explodes?"

There was always a catch.

A high straining laugh bubbled out from her throat. After three hours on the train, they were fifteen minutes from Lawicke.

Lillian sat in one of the seats on the train. Her ears hearing the sounds of people chatting, the click clack of the train wheels on the track, but none of that mattered to her. Her hands were folded neatly on the skirt of her dress. Her blue eyes staring down at her hands, narrowed as if they were hiding something from her, but in truth she was hiding from others in her thoughts.

Her hair was pulled into a high ponytail, but she wasn't as decorated as she would have been if she was at home. She was rather plain for the trip.

Her hands tightened. What was she going to do at this academy? Where the other students of her standing? No of course not. The school had a lottery system. There would be a range. What kind of pokemon would she even get when she was there? She hoped she wouldn't get a meowth or a persian or something like that. It seemed everyone in her family had one of those... But what if she got a trubbish? She wouldn't be able to stand having a pokemon like that because of how she was raised! She needed something that had standards and elegance like she had! Of course there was nothing wrong with people like trubbish.. she was sure it was a good pokemon, but she had a status to up hold! A family to represent! Even thought she wasn't going to take over their business... Her thoughts continued on.. She was really anxious about this whole thing.

Alex knew she should of felt excited - proud. She had done it, she had gotten into Lawicke Academy - the elite boarding school because of luck had favored her. But as she sat there in the train as the school loomed in the distance, growing closer by the second, Alex found it hard to be excited. Instead, she felt homesick. She had never wanted to go - her parents had signed her up for the lottery in hopes that it would do her good if she did win and when she did...She couldn't have let her parents down and refuse when they had only wanted what was the best for her. She sighed softly as she tried to squeeze herself tighter into the corner she was sitting in. It didn't change the fact that she wanted to go home. Her eyes flickered nervously around at the groups of other soon-to-be students of all the same age that cluttered the train car with her. She felt envious - most of them looked like today was the best day of their lives while she wished it would just be over. She didn't deserve to be here, she wasn't anybody important. It was just simple luck that had brought her here...Alex shook her head as she hugged herself. She wasn't sure what life awaited her at the academy and truth be told, she was terrified to find out.

It took Stephen a bit to realize the enormity of the situation as he sat on the train. He was the only member in his family to ever be chosen to go to Lawicke. He anxiously messed with the ends of his sleeves as he waited for the train to arrive at the academy. The boy would miss Eterna City, with the people and the Gym and especially his family. Now that he was going to a different place, a different Region altogether, he was worried that he wouldn't make any friends. Back home, he knew literally the entire town. Here, at Lawicke, he didn't know of anyone that had also been chosen. He looked out the window and saw the massive buildings that he knew to be the marvelous Lawicke Academy. His jaw dropped as he admired just how large it really was. How was ever going to find his way through the place?

How on earth had he gotten here? Marcus had asked himself that question ever since he found out that he had been chosen to be a student at Lawicke Academy. Even as he sat on the train on his way to the school, he simply could not believe that he had been chosen. He had been telling himself that this was all a dream. However, no matter how much he denied that he was on his way to the academy, he took every chance he got to learn as much as he could both about the academy itself and the pokemon he found as he went. As a matter of fact, as he sat in his seat on the train, his face glued to the window as he stared out into the distance, waiting impatiently to see any kind of new pokemon running or flying through the forest and hills around them. However, they were few and far in between. So, most of Marcus's time was spent bouncing in his seat as he tapped his pencil furiously on the notepad that rested in his lap.

"Whoa!" he finally gasped, probably louder than he should as he was caught off guard by the sight of a Girafarig running for a moment alongside of the train. Instantly, the boy began scribbling down in his notebook, writing down everything he could from appearance to behavior, reaching the bottom of an already full page in no time. With a newfound excitement, he tried his best to flip the page over as fast as he could in order to get more time to observe, but instead, he found himself fighting the page and nearly ripping it in half in his struggle. "No, wait... crap!" he cried before finally being successful. Unfortunately, when he got to a clean page, he looked up and it was gone. He had been waiting for something new to appear for a good forty-five minutes of the ride before this pokemon, and now it was gone. With a disappointed sigh, he smacked his pencil down in his lap and glanced around the train, seeing if there was anyone who would even be remotely interested in talking about their experience so far.

Click!

A flash went off from a camera, blinding not only himself but possible the others in the room. However, he was particularly used to it, so he didn't mind the spots in his vision. Media was in his family, and there was no way he wasn't going to document everything. This current photo had been one of a Girafarig-- the same one Marcus had spotted. Once the photo loaded, Bellamy got a better look at the Pokemon. The picture's background was blurry as the train flew past it, The pokemon itself was illuminated by the light from inside the train, and the momentary flash of his camera. Overall, it was an okay picture. The flash and other lights were reflected in the window so it didn't look all too great.

Bellamy was one of the lucky teens to receive the opportunity to become a student at Lawicke. At first, he had figured it was one of those; Ýou just won a 50 dollar gift card to the Pokemart! Click here to redeem your prize! The kind of fake--this can't possibly be real-- to good to be true sort of deal. However, after a conversation with his parents who had apparently signed him up without asking if he wanted to in the first place-- Bellamy was already packing. It wasn't that he didn't want to go to Lawicke, but he was still rather stiffed that his parents did not mention the fact they entered him...and apparently bribed them. But that was just what he could gather from his parent's muted whispers from after he left the room.

So it felt like he cheated the system a bit. The teen puffed out his cheeks and leaned back in his seat, red eyes open wide for anything worth taking pictures for.

Sitting in the corner of the train car was a lone girl. The window beside her was propped open, letting the brisk forest air fill her lungs and cool her face. It had been a mistake, wearing a heavy knitted sweater on her first day in Haven. Never once in her life had she not worn a sweater outside. Yet things were different here. The air was hot, thick, nearly boiling in comparison to the constant blanket of snow she lived under. There was no need for sweaters anymore.

With one hand she fanned herself, with the other she held down the pages of her book so they wouldn't be blow away by the strong winds entering from the window. She barely paid attention to the noise around her. A few complaints had risen from other passengers during their ride towards Brooke Station, but like the rest of the hustle and bustle of the train, she ignored it. The blonde was more intrigued with the story of a world without Pokémon she had in her hands.

While her eyes flitted across the rows of lettering, Christina's mind wandered to the luck she had received those few nights ago.

Coming across Haven's very own pamphlet had been lucky in itself. Her parents had brought in boxes of various magazines and pamphlets from across the world, each dedicated to their very own region and advertising it for vacationers and travelers. The small regions had stood out amongst the rest as a small, thin paper without much to offer. Why anyone would want to visit Haven was a mystery to the shut-in until she had read it's synopsis.

How could such a quaint, small place appeal to her so quickly? She found herself drawn in with each word until she begged on the floor to her parents to enter her in their academy's lottery. Lawicke was quiet, studious, and not to mention infested with all types of wild Pokémon! It was perfect!

Never in her life had she been so anxious about anything. Even books couldn't cause such a riot inside her. Christina had to attend school at Lawicke Academy. Forgetting Sinnoh's own Yuki Academy, she dedicated her time preparing for her new life in Haven - even if she didn't win the lottery. But luck came her way and she jumped on the first boat out.

The train ride had been pretty boring if Casey had anything to say about it. Students from different regions, none in which she knew, and for what felt like ages she sat alone in the corner of her train car, staring out a window, watching as country scenery flew by. At first when she was chosen to attend Lawicke Academy she had been overly ecstatic about the whole ordeal, but now that she'd left her home, she wasn't so sure. The train staff had been kind enough to bring her some warm tea but other than that little highlight, the ride was pretty bland and unfortunately for her, she just so happened to be sitting next to the most obnoxious kids on the planet. Bragging about their home regions and pokemon crap that everyone knew about, jumping over their chairs to be with their friends, they were all so immature. Well, every kid in the train cars were all the same age but even so, she didn't act as stupid as they did with their loud mouths.

"15 minutes till arrival!" A voice announced over the train radio system.

Thank God, Casey didn't think that she could stand the ride much longer and couldn't wait to get out and stretch her legs. Not to mention the fact that they were so close to the school sent a chill up her spine as she thought about everything. Who would she meet? What would classes be like? Questions raced through the brunette's mind as she watched a forest of trees zoom by the train. Lawicke Academy, here I come.

Normally, she would be quick on progress to make as many friends as possible. More friends meant more connectionss. More connections meant more friends, which bred popularity, notoriety, and the chance for favors. That's what she'd always been taught anyways. You never got anywhere being a nobody or hiding from the world in the corner. At home, she was never allowed to hide away in her room, always having to be out or with her family. Never leave one place without learning something new about someone. Learn all you can about those around you. Stake your claims.

But hey, she wasn't at home anymore, so how would her family know what she was up to? She could enjoy the peaceful train ride, for however much longer it lasted. What did they say? Fifteen more minutes?

Ophelia didn't bother to stare out the window, keeping her eyes glued to her nails as she filed away, grinding down the edge of her finger tips to soft, delicate perfection. Appearances were everything, and it's not as if there was much else to do to pass the time. She puffed up her cheeks, crossing her legs together and letting her eyes wander around the cart, spotting a few different people close to her; A boy with black hair, a girl with white, and a few different folks with their cheeks smudged against the glass.

She savored the last bit of silence while she could.

Alright. Alright.

Just take a breath.

She drummed her fingers against her knees and stood up, stretching out her arms. Moving would be good. Burn off some energy, work out her nerves, hey, maybe meet a few people? This was a fresh start. A real, honest, genuine fresh start. Back in Johto, she was nobody, but here, she could be anybody! Whatever happened, she wouldn't let her old life in Ecruteak follow her to Lawicke, and no matter what—...!

All her delusions of friends and popularity swirling around in her head burst at the sudden white flash, popping like a lightbulb. Gwyn threw her arms over her face with a sudden squeal and sunk back into her seat.

One, two, three seconds. Oh, she wasn't dead. The train was still intact, clicking against the tracks, still bound for Lawicke. Gwyn let her hands drop into her lap. It was just some kid with a camera... Mother of Mew...

Stay positive. Stay positive. Stay positive.

Ten minutes to Lawicke.

She had never been on a train before. There hadn't been much reason to even leave the cozy confines of her town, but now a new opportunity had arrived, and it excited Caroline beyond belief. Since she was a child, she'd interacted with Pokémon, but they were the wild ones that came to enjoy the flowers Floaroma Town was known for. When she'd made her decision to become a real, honest-to-goodness Pokémon trainer, she was ecstatic that her parents supported her and attempted to enroll her in the prestigious Lawicke Academy. There were surely backup plans in the very real case that she didn't get selected, but surprise surprise: she was!

The train itself was exciting to her. At the beginning of the ride, she had stayed in her seat, face pressed up against the glass and watching the world fly by. The novelty began to slightly diminish though, and so she decided to get up on her feet. Originally she had been worried that if she wasn't holding onto something, the momentum of the train would send her flying into the back, but as it turned out, that wasn't how it worked. With that established, she probably annoyed more than a few riders by walking from train car to train car, 'surfing' as they moved down the tracks.

It was slightly disappointing that there were only ten minutes left until they made it to Lawicke, only because she'd been having a lot of fun on the train. She hadn't even minded when she got scolded for hanging on the railing above her head. She'd spent most of the ride standing, and that's how she was going to reach the academy. Bouncing on her toes, she flattened down her skirt for the twenty-second time - she'd counted - and stared wide-eyed and eager out the windows. Soon, she would be a real Pokémon Trainer!

Lillian was pulled out of her troubling thoughts as soon as she heard someone squeal. Leaning forward in her seat she looking around the car for the source of the noise until her blue eyes landed on a girl who had her head covered. What was she freaking out about? Nothing happened.

She let out another small huff. Part of her wanted to ask if she was alright, but another part said not to since who knows what the girl could be like. She didn't seem to be one to understand people of high standing. Curse her strange up bringing. She stood up out of her seat and walked over to where the girl was sitting. Her arms were crossed over her chest. "Are you alright?" She asked.

Alex had distracted herself by looking out the window, spotting the Girafarig that two other students had seen. Her eyes widen with surprise as she had never seen such a Pokemon before and pressed her face against the glass. What type was it? She wondered that as she studied the Pokemon. A normal type maybe? She thought the face on its tail was rather cute looking but then she saw the tail snap at the air and she drew away from the window. Alright, so maybe it wasn't so cu- A blinding light flashed in the air, causing her to jump as a squeal echoed in the car.

She glanced around in panic as she blinked, before realizing the flash was from a camera and the squeal was from a terrified student. Alex would have checked on the terrified student but saw another girl go over there first. Not wanting to be a member of a crowd, Alex simply sank back into her seat. Ten minutes to go...She couldn't wait to be free from this car - she didn't like being cramped with so many people around her.

If she could've just phased into the seat, that would've been just dandy, but she knew she'd turned some heads with her reaction. She could feel their eyes burning straight into her from all around the train car. Gwyn turned to the source of the voice, a graceful ice sculpture of a girl. "Wha-wha-wha...? Who? Me?" she said, forcing a grin, as if that would convince anybody. Like, 'hey, did you hear that scream, must have been that weirdo a couple rows down, am I right?' The worst was that nothing she did would be able to erase that first impression. You only got one. "Fine. Great! Never better. Uh, are you alright?"

She'd accidentally trashed enough parties and meetings to recognize well-bred aristocrats when she saw them. The Morrighans were something like old money themselves, but old in that, well, they didn't exactly have much fresh money coming in nowadays. Even at their peak, they'd always been on a lower rung than the big big names, even in old rustic Johto. Still, she had to compose herself. She had to do the family name proud. Or die trying. Probably die.

Almost falling asleep, Casey wished the ride would be over already. The people around her had died down a bit but she was still bored as hell and having only a book that she'd read around a hundred times was no way to occupy herself. Once or twice, another kid bumped into her and she simply gave them a death glare, not bothering to move. Jesus, how long has it been? she wondered to herself, her eyelids becoming heavy as the train kept chugging away.
