Bad things have followed Gwyn since she was in the crib. When she was four, a Drifloon almost carried her off into the sky, and when she was nine, she threw a box of her old dolls into the attic and woke up a week later to Banette slipping through the vents. Ever since she could remember, she's found Drowzee under her bed and Gastly in the woodpiles outside her home in rustic Johto. The other kids called her "Absol" and sang taunts when she walked past because disasters always happened when she showed up. Even that had to happen at a safe distance after Duskull started cropping up in some of the kids' houses.

Her bright and upbeat personality gets overshadowed by a sense of doom and gloom that follows her everywhere she goes. Her love for the cute, bright, and fluffy is always frustrated by her affinity to the macabre. Pet a Pikachu and it'll turn out to be a Mimikyu in disguise. Say the weather's nice out loud and it always starts raining. Gwyn loses every coin toss. She's a magnet for Ghost-types, Dark-types, Psychic-types, and worst of all, Bug-types, and no one can say why. No one 'reasonable,' anyways. An uncle tried getting her a Pokémon for her eleventh birthday, but when he opened the ball it was empty. Gone. Nowhere to be seen.

Not that she hasn't been able to turn her luck around for lack of trying. Her father's tried everything, from charms to talismans to stuffing Cleanse Tags inside her pockets, dreamcatchers for her nightmares and protective circles outside her door, but it was that kind of thing that caused all this poor fortune in the first place. Gwyn hails from a long and notable line of ghost hunters, witch catchers, mediums and hexcrafters, and after generations of interaction with the paranormal, locals whisper the bloodline's cursed. Morrighans have an unhealthy habit of going out young and going out violent. Her mother in particular disappeared on one of her work trips, and Gwyn's never been able to figure out from her father's cryptic answers if she got sucked into a black hole or she just divorced him and split.

So chancing out and being selected in Lawicke's lottery, a 1-in-5,000 chance to attend one of the best schools in the world... She'll just be praying the train doesn't derail on the way there.
